This park is situated in Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, which is about 180 km away from the capital city Jaipur. Ranthambore National park was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 by the Government of India. The park is located at the edge of a highland, and is surrounded to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River.
The park is named for the historic Ranthambhore fortress, which lies within the national park. Moreover, the park covers an area of 392 km², and is one of India’s reputed Project Tiger reserves. The park is also known for its huge tiger inhabitants and apart from tigers you can also find other major wild animals which include leopard, Nilgai, dhole, wild boar, sambar, hyena, sloth bear and chital. It is also home to wide variety of trees, plants, birds and reptiles. Further, The Park has drastic variations in climatic conditions; the temperature range is excessive with the mercury reducing to around 2 degrees centigrade in the winters and in the summer rising up to 47 degrees centigrade’s so taking this into note you can best visit the place from October to June. The tourists can also plan their next trip from the Ranthambore National Park tour to Sawai Madhopur Village where they can see historical monuments. Karauli and Bundi are other tourist place famous for its temples and architectural marvels. Kota another place which is (100 km) away from the forest and various tourist places like the City Fort and Palace, Kota Barrage, the Kishore Sagar Tank, the Jagmandir Palace, the Brij Vilas Palace Museum etc.
